About the Coalition

A Bit of Background

The Muncie Maternal Mental Health Coalition was founded in September of 2019. Our goal is to promote and nurture the emotional well-being of all mothers, fathers, children and families in the Muncie community with coordinated and comprehensive mental health services accessible throughout the perinatal period and beyond. We strive to improve mental health resources, systems, and policies for new parents through community partnership, education, outreach and advocacy. Our coalition includes local parents, mental health professionals, researchers, and educators who are passionate about improving the quality of life for parents in our community.

Featured Community Resource: Recovery Cafe!

Recovery Cafe is a community of people who are in recovery from all sorts of things: mental health challenges, substance abuse, homelessness, domestic violence, hunger, whatever it is that's keeping us from being our best truest selves.

We come together several days per week to create a community of love and respect, while we share a free meal and coffee, play games, and talk about what's going on in our lives. We offer peer support circles, School for Recovery classes, lots of connections to resources, and fun social events.

Recovery cafe is now offering a child-friendly day at the cafe! These are held on Tuesdays from 10am-1pm. During that time, children are cared for in a separate room, doing crafts, playing games, listening to music; while adults are experiencing the cafe. This is a great resource for new parents, especially those experiencing postpartum or isolation associated with parenthood.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Memorial Service and Candlelight Vigil

The Muncie Maternal Mental Health Coalition warmly invites you to join us as we honor Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on Sunday October 15, 2023.

Please check back for details on how we will be gathering for this national day of remembrance to honor, celebrate, and remember babies who have passed away due to miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, and other causes of infant loss.

If you are interested in volunteering to help us coordinate this years event please reach out to us at munciemamasmh@gmail.com

All are welcome as we gather together to take part in an International Wave of Light, along with others from around the world, to join in honor and remembrance of loved and longed for babies.
